A word on laser recertification:
We get many calls from customers that are concerned about sales representatives from various new laser manufactures stating that if a used, preowned, gray market or third party laser is purchased, they will need to have it recertified prior to using it or before the manufacturer will sell them parts and accessories. Recertification cost have been quoted anywhere from 5k to 20k. As of the writing of this article, no state requires recertification by the manufacturer to use their system! What recertification would justify a cost of 5k to 20k? This would also be exclusive of any service work. Some of the manufacturers that ask for this recertification fee spend less than this amount to manufacturer the item new! Could you imagine Ford or BMW telling a customer interested in a preowned car that a recertification fee would need to be paid prior to them willing to sell any parts or accessories. Keep this in mind when purchasing a new system, because it will become a preowned laser in time and this recertification fee will affect you systems value. Advanced Medical inspects and warranties their lasers and we do not charge a recertification fee if your interested in selling or trading in your system. Which lasers treat vascular and pigmented lesions?
Treating vascular and pigmented lesions with laser technology is very popular. The following is a list of current wavelengths being used.
Nd: YAG (1064nm)
IPL (intense pulse light) 515-950nm
Pulsed dye (595nm)
KTP / Diode (532nm)
Diode (808nm)
How effective are pigmented lesion lasers?
The technology is very effective. Current systems are performing treatments in less time with better results. Most if not all lasers for this treatment are none invasive. No down time with very little patient discomfort add to their appeal.. Depending on the size of the area being, most procedures only require 1-2 visits.
Why should I consider adding a laser to my business?
Most laser procedures are fee for service. What this means is if an individual wants to have a procedure performed, payment will be in the form of check, charge or cash. In most cases no insurance companies involved suggesting what to charge or how to perform the procedure. This gives the physician complete control over what system to purchase for the best results for their patient. Not to mention no CPT codes or time involve in getting reimbursed. Lasers can be that second revenue source at your practice and in some cases another option for your patients.
What to look for when considering a laser vendor?
- SOLD "As Is"
Be careful of any laser equipment being sold "As Is". Most creditable dealers will have at least a 30 day warranty. Being sold "As Is" means you get whatever shows up at your door! .
- Are you dealing with a laser dealer or laser broker?
Laser dealers tend to own the laser being advertised. They have inspected the laser prior to making a purchase for themselves. This is just another detail that can lead to a safe purchase. Brokers tend to act as the middle man and do not own the laser. In most cases they have never seen or tested the laser. Once the deal is done nine times out of ten they are out of the picture. Any issues with the laser or accessories missing will need to be followed up with the owner .
- Contact information?
You should look for a vendor that has several methods to contact them (telephone, cell phone, email, fax, etc).
- Looking to upgrade in the future?
If you upgrade lasers from time to time, look for vendors who except trade – in's.
- Training provided?
Make sure the vendors offer training if needed.
- Time in business
Look for a company that has been around for a while. If they have been around for a while this is a good sign they take care of their customers. Yes a new company can offer good service as well, but will not have the track record. If a company says they have been in business for years, simple do a "Who Is" search on the domain name which will tell you when it was registered.. If the domain name was just registered 6 months ago you're due an explanation.
